Advancing Geospatial Skills Workshop for Teachers

The deadline is May 25th for teachers to apply to this professional development program.

This summer UW-Milwaukee will host several Power of Data (POD) workshops to help teachers develop and enhance lessons and student learning through geospatial inquiry; engage students in skills like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity; promote student awareness of careers in geospatial technologies; develop and practice ArcGIS Online; refine pedagogical skills, and build a network of professional resources.

Project facilitators Donna Genzmer and Kate Madison are seeking exceptional 6th through 12th-grade public, charter, and private school teachers to apply to attend the 35-hour workshops.

Teacher workshop participants will receive a stipend, hands-on experience with web-based mapping software, and instructional and technical support for lesson implementation. No previous experience with GIS is necessary.
The project is also seeking professional, commercial, and community sponsors for classroom supplies, workshop expenses, refreshments, and GeoMentors for post-workshop mentoring.
